Taking the plunge

Starting May 1rst a new Wardrobe refashion period starts, so I'm pledging to buy no new clothes between May 1rst and July 1rst. This probably won't be too hard for me since I have a tonne of clothes and don't buy a lot these days anyhow, but I've already been doing this kind of thing for awhile, particularly recovering yarn from un-loved and languishing thrift store sweaters. Feel free to join in with me!

thanks for visiting my blog. this is right up my ally. does not buying new clothes also mean not buying "new" used clothes?

Thrift store shopping is completely acceptable for this thank goodness. It's too good a time of the year for sweaters (and thus yarn) to pass up the thrift stores!

oh, good. we are in the middle of a no-buying-new challenge and it is going so well! it has been an amazing lesson and i think a permanent change for us.
i am a beginner knitter and have plenty of yarn for my beginner needs, but if and when i ever improve....did you find a tutorial you followed for unraveling sweaters to re-use?

If you are really getting into knitting you should join ravelry - such great resources to be found there. There is a group called "Thrifty Knitters" with a lot of great information. The best tutorial I found was at http://www.neauveau.com/recycledyarn.html, though at thrifty knitters there are a lot of links to additional tutorials, as well as cheap ways to make handy knitting tools from objects you probably already have!
